48 2.0 Another electronics post

So i've been thinking of getting an EB48 for bashing but i can't really decide on electrics but anyway my current options are the XR8 Pro with either the 4268 1900 or 2200 KV motors, Max8 with 4274 or 4268 and finally the Castle MMX with 1515 motor. I'm currently leaning towards the XR8 2200 kv combo since i don't really need the fast accelaration and i want a fast buggy and the castle stuff is double the price of hobbywing where i live.

I just purchased the EB48.2 and will start my build early next week. I’m putting Hobbywing Xerun XR8 Pro Brushless ESC/G3 Motor Combo (1900kV) in it. I’ll post how that works out. My driving style i probably similar to yours. So far I’m happy with Hobbywing.

Thanks for the quick reply. Just wondering why most people are choosing the 1900kv over the 2200kv since its faster but is still relatively low kv for 4s.

Stick with the lower kv for bashing it will help keep the heat down and give you more pinion size options

Some people say higher kv and lower gearing is better, others say the opposite. I'll probably just go with the 1900kv since it's more common and i have seen someone with major heat issues with the 2200kv.

If you're only bashing it I would recommend a waterproof esc, not that you even expect to get it wet, but I've often found puddles that I didn't see when bashing.

The motor you should choose will depend on the type of driving you're doing. If you're trying to get really high speed on fairly flat, high grip terrain, then I'd go with a higher kV motor. If you're going to be bashing on rougher more technical terrain then I'd go with a lower kV motor.

Obviously you can adjust things with the pinion, but it is easier if you get it close to start with. The XR8 PRO is really nice to tune and I highly recommend it for track style driving, but I bash with my Castle MMX8S esc and 1520 motor in my ET48 2.0 and it's the best basher vehicle by far I've ever used. The Castle system is really great and has so many tuning options, the fans don't like huge jumps, but not many esc fans do. The switch on the Castle is rubbish, but easy to remove. I've never had a hobbywing switch fail. The XR8 PRO is limited to 4s, but that is plenty unless you want to Truggify the buggy.

Here are some pictures of my ET48 2.0 with a XR8 PLUS installed and my Castle system, I don't have any pictures of the XR8 PRO installed in my EB48 2.0, but it fits beautifully.

Sorry for not responding sooner. I have looked at castle systems previously since they are about the same price as the XR8 but would the MMX 1515 combo be good enough for 4s bashing at around 45 mph with no heat issues?

Most 1/8 system will do 45mph on 4s.

I’ve been searching to see if the Castle 1515 sensored motor would fit the EB48 2.0 and came across this thread. Is this the 1515 motor?
Also, interesting that you have moved the ESC to the back, what ESC tray did you use?

Yes it does. Fits the same motor as the truggy.

That’s great! I know it fits the ET48 (building one as we speak), but a gentleman from the online vendor mentioned that I might have to go to a 1512 motor for it to fit the EB48 given that there is less space there. I couldn’t verify since my EB is on order which is why I asked.

I'm sorry I don't know if it will fit I have a hobbywing set-up in my Buggy and race truggy, I have a 1520 in my bashing truggy, the esc and radio box were swapped around to allow it to fit.

I was told by someone who has both EB and ET that from Center Diff forward, both have same dimension. If a motor fits the ET, it should fit the EB.

how did you go about swapping them? stick tape? or did you tap new holes to mount the two trays?
