Hobbywing ESC

I bought the

Hobbywing EZRun Max8 G2 Waterproof Brushless ESC/Motor Combo w/XT90 (2250kV).​

The esc has 2 battery connections but I'm only running 1 4 cell Spectrum 5000 mah 100c battery. Does there need to be something done with that 2nd battery connection for it to work? Because I can not get it to power on no matter what I try. I have 4 of those batteries all 100% charged and brand new. Tried with motor connected and not connected, esc only hooked up to receiver, steering servo only, and nothing but the battery and nothing works.
! Any suggestions?

This is the quick fix. No problems using one, but if the OP plans on sticking with the 4s brick, I suggest eliminating the dual plug setup. Extra wires are a liability.
I leave them on because I frequently go back and forth between 1x4s and 2x2s..
