Hobbywing Esc switch cable chewed.

Answers on a postcard. The cable got covered in sand and vibrations made the grit ware into the cable as it slipped under the motor.

Best way to fix this?

I've already snipped out the bad piece of wire, and part prepped for some fix or another.

I'm thinking snip all four and just solder and heat shrink extension wires in to place so I can better route the switch.

either that or bypass the switch. i hate power switches

Yes I would splice a new piece of wire, you will need to keep the switch in order to re-calibrate the ESC

I don't have much length to play with here so is don't think I can wrap the wires around each other before soldering. I don't want to get to close to the esc housing as if it goes wrong I'll be having to open up the esc and that'll be open heart surgery by the looks of it.

Do you think I could just solder some bare metal (like in pic below, taken from some 12awg) And heat shrink.

I'm really annoyed with myself, as the servo switch lead wasn't long enough in the first place. Whilst this won't shorten it, it will make it harder to route.

Could I mount the switch here?

I like to mount the switch on top of the radio box toward the back, this requires me to extend the wiring by splice soldering extra servo wiring to make it work.

Different switch here, but you can see the shrink tubing on where I extended the wiring, then I packed all the holes with grease to prevent the Rx from getting dirt/dust:

So I thought I'd share my plan. Having practiced a lot on 24awg stranded wire, soldering works, but is not the best approach.

I've gone for crimp butt splice connectors (uninsulated) with heat shrink. You can buy insulated with heat shrink all in one, but in the UK they are pricy.

The problem with soldering is the weakness that is created at the end of the solder as it transitions into the unsoldered wire. It's still strongish, and likely strong enough, but if it got bent it breaks quickly.

Source: experience testing and practising plus then speaking to a guy I know who manufactures electronic stuff in the UK for the telematics industry. He laughed and said that is what happens and why these connectors exist!

Job done. Used some gorilla tape to hold the switch cable against the centre stiffener.
