Hi. I'm getting a built, but never run ET48 2.0 later today (pics attached). I'm coming from Traxxas Slash Ultimates (I have 2) and I'm pretty used to running and fixing / diagnosing those. I'll have a few questions after providing some basic info.

So far it includes:
  • Built ET48 2.0 kit
  • Installed Spektrum S62 85 servo
  • Installed Tekin RX8 Gen3 ESC / Tekin Redline T8 Gen3 1900kV motor combo
  • AKA wheels and tires
  • Tekno M5 Mod1 pinion & Aluminum Servo horn
  • Leadfinger painted body
  • Also have a Flysky Noble NB4 Radio Transmitter Remote Controller Receiver
Questions
  1. Battery - Some sort of high C rating (100C+?) battery? Something like a Gens Ace Redline 4s 130C battery or is what I have already sufficient?
    • Can I use something like an SMC 5200 mAh battery, 100C? I already have 2 of these like this (click link) or do I need to get something like above?
    • What's the difference between a $130 vs $50 battery to a guy that is just learning? I don't plan on immediately becoming race competitive?
    • It's a 4s setup, right? That's what I should be running?
  2. Capacitors - Will I need some sort of capacitor pack to deal with ripple voltage? Is the Tekin already good to go on that front?
  3. Connectors - Are bullet battery connectors necessary or can I stick with my XT-60s? I've used them mostly to this point.
  4. ESC programming - Is it worth it to get the Tekin Hotwire ESC programmer? Will the stock ESC settings be suitable for use before programming it? Should I just use a laptop to program?
  5. Tools - What sort of tools should I start looking into to maintain and setup? I have a shock station for doing shock oil and such and some 3d printed tools for setting up camber, toe, and a few other things but I've seen things like wheel / tire mounting jigs.
  6. RTR equipment - What else will the car need to be drivable?
  7. Misc - What else am I not thinking of? Any beginner resources for setting up things like endpoints? what are all the settings on the esc that I need to be aware of (cutoff voltage, etc)?
Of course I don't expect someone to answer all of these questions but if you'd like to answer any of them I'd appreciate it.

  1. Battery - 4S will be fine with a 16T pinion, definitely want a minimum of 7Ah, I run these here:
  2. Capacitors - Those are a thing of the past, particularly with Castle ESC's but their newer generation ESC's have stronger BEC's just like everyone else today
  3. Connectors - In line bullets are standard but you want a minimum of 5mm bullets where I prefer EC5 myself
  4. ESC programming - I don't run Tekin but I always invest in a programming card regardless of brand I run
  5. Tools - Tools for the Pit Table
  6. RTR equipment - if you're going to be racing then I would rebuild the car I start with local fast guys setup sheet, regardless the maintenance will be the most important thing: Maintenance Tips
  7. Misc - I have a bunch of random threads here that may be useful:

Good Luck!

Bill this response was awesome! Thanks so much for being so thorough!

Bill what do you think of using shock socks (my local track is outdoor dirt)?
What about adding a cooling fan to the motor? Something like this cooling fan?

Shock boots are already visible on your truck, not familiar with "shock socks" other than I've seen folks wrap the springs with balloons but they seem to be more trouble than they are worth, far easier to blow your car with an air compressor after every run regardless, no such thing as a "car condom" anyway where the boots protect your shafts from getting scratched and that's all that matters ;)

I've never had the need for a cooling fan on the motor for truggy but if you're seeing temps go above 160°F then I would install one, more info here:
