Thinking of mounting on/ off switch on top on esc fan. Bad idea?

It will block air flow to the fan, if that matters to you.

How important is that air flow?

It depends how hot you are getting your ESC when running it. Sometimes a fan is necessary and some times its not. Its based on how you drive and the electronics you use.

If you live in a hot climate like Florida or California, you do not want to do this. Even an 80 degree day in New York, you probably don't want to do this unless you're using a small pinion.

There is no good solution imho. First is elegant but hard to reach, second is not easy to get nice.
