Thinking of mounting on/ off switch on top on esc fan. Bad idea?

How important is that air flow?
 
It depends how hot you are getting your ESC when running it. Sometimes a fan is necessary and some times its not. Its based on how you drive and the electronics you use.
 
If you live in a hot climate like Florida or California, you do not want to do this. Even an 80 degree day in New York, you probably don't want to do this unless you're using a small pinion.
