48 2.0 Shock caps!!!

No matter how tight my aluminum shock caps are they keep coming loose. My ET is covered in shock oil. Is there a trick to keeping the shock caps from unscrewing?

Yes, I have to remind myself of this on EB48 2.0

If it is an ongoing thing, I think I would have to try teflon tape to snug up any imperfections of a shock's threading.

I know years ago there was an issue where the caps weren't machined short enough causing the oring to not get "squished", but that since has been fixed. I haven't had or seen this in a long time.
My caps actually take quite a bit of force to twist off.
How is everyone tightening their caps? I'm using our pliers to hold the body and our 17mm wrench to twist the cap. I apply a good bit of force for the last bit of tightening.

Shock “pliers” on body, normal pliers on cap eyelet.

I may not be tightening the aluminum caps enough, (I definitely did not when first assembled, but tighten a lot more now.) I still have stock plastic caps in the rear and I’m afraid to strip them.

…but the stock plastic SCT410 2.0 collars do require pliers to rotate if you don’t want to take the entire shock off. At least they don’t move on their own by accident!

Once my cap bottoms out on the shock body flange it won't turn any more. I don't feel any resistance from the seal. When the caps are on all the way they don't leak. I think if the cap was a millimeter shorter there wouldn't be a problem.
The Google AI agrees that Teflon tape would be a good idea. I have a half filled shock on my MT48 that's leaking fluid all over the front of my truck that I will try it on. If this doesn't work I'm going to convert over to M2C Arrma caps. They're shorter.

The 8th scale aluminum caps should have a max measurement of 10.4mm from the bottom to the flat area on top. If it's more than that, then it's older stock. Easiest thing to do if it's too tall is to put a piece of 200 grit sandpaper on a flat surface and move the cap around in a figure 8 checking the height as you go.

I pulled a shock cap off, it measures 10.0mm from bottom to top. Top of the shock body to the flange is 6.5mm. Cap depth from bottom edge to the ledge where the seal sits is 8.0mm. That means the seal has to be 1.5mm just to touch the shock body.
