Which motor would you recommend and pinion gear?

Depends on track/driving conditions really.

With that ESC you are referring to though you don't want to run anything lower than a 13.5

I think 13.5 is a great turn motor to start with. It will still get you around a track pretty damn fast and is a lot more controllable than the lower turn motors.

Tekno has this chart for gearing recommendations to start.

Thank you large! What tooth pinion/spur does the stock eb410 have? I am not racing but have about 300ft I can drive my buggies in.

Ok awesome. Should I try a 20 tooth pinion with a 6.5t motor? And keep a 19 and 21 tooth on hand?

TBuggy: That ESC says it can do as low as 4.5T off road...

Those are good pinions to start.

Sorry I was thinking it was the 60amp ESC.

Its probably a fine motor, and yes it would work in the EB410.

One thing I do know, is that SMC no longer makes motors or ESC's. Not sure if that is an indicator of the quality or just due to too much competition in that market for them to want to stay in it. I think it is most likely the latter.

If it is being given to you then I don't really see anything to loose by trying it out.

Cool I will try it. Does anyone else know about SMC motors and if theyre good or not?

Their 1/8 motors have the reputation of being very smooth. I have been running one for almost two years, can only say good things about it.

i do also believe it is hard to go wrong with brushless motors, even with the cheap ones. Might have been lucky up to know.

Will this 8.5t be plenty fast? I have this ESC/motor combo right now.:

https://www.amainhobbies.com/hobbyw...3652sl-motor-combo-3300kv-hwa38010203/p713296

How much faster will the 8.5t motor be with the HW 10BL120?

The one from your link is 3300kv or in and around 13.5T the 8.5T would be somewhere near 5000kv ( give or take ) All that tells you really is how many rpm/volt it will spin ..... gearing it right will be the key. That said it WILL make a significant difference in speed.

The ESC you linked will work with either sensored or sensor less motors.
Cheers

I think I will leave the 3300kv motor in the EB410 and go with the 8.5t in my Yokomo YZ2 that I will be getting soon. Sound good?
