Vitavon has gone in deep with the MT48 2.0. I don't see Tekno listed on their menu. If you search "MT48" the whole catalog comes up. If you search "Tekno" only half the catalog comes up. I just order a set of ring gears. At some point I'm going to pick up some of their driveshafts.

Are these actually an upgrade over stock though?

I have them on my Kraton with a 4990 motor and on my Sledge with a 1717 motor. Vitavon ring gears are the best you can buy. My problem is I'm running Arrma 6s Backflip wheels and they're too much for the stock ring / input gears.

Look at them spiral cut dandies 😎
I'm guessing they cost more to make/machine than run of the mill straight cut gears.

I disagree! I bought the Vitavon gears for my Sledge and they didn't fit the stock or even their own bulkheads. The mesh was incredibly tight! Got no response from Vitavon about it... Swapped to the Traxxas upgraded ones, perfect.
I use the the 6s backflips on my ET48 and MT48 without issue. ADU/AllRacing bulkheads and stock ring/pinion on the plastic cups.

My Sledge I had to shim the diffs to get the gear mesh tighter. I wonder what the difference between our trucks is. I ran the whole thing as a set, Vitavon gears, cases, and gearboxes. Everything fit perfectly.

For us, the cost is the same between helical and straight cut gears.
Just curious... Has Tekno ever tested spiral cut diff ring/pinion gears in a EB/NB/ET/NT48 platform?

I know some companies, like Associated and their RC8 lineup, have gone back to straight cut gears after the RC8.2 was discontinued. I never really dug/searched into it as to why it was done.

We have tested spiral cut gears and quite simply they're not as durable as straight cut. With any ring and pinion gear, you're always going to have a drive side and a coast side. Since we're not going to make specific front and rear cut gears, we're always going to be driving either the front or the rear on the coast side. Now, this itself isn't a huge problem although it's still not ideal, full size 4wd trucks do this. The difference is that our cars brake through the ring and pinions, full size cars brake at the wheel. Applying brakes puts a huge amount of stress through the gears, and if you're applying the brake on the coast side, it's harder for the gears to take that stress. Additionally, setting mesh is easier on straight cut gears. They can also be set a little tighter or a little looser without as much consequence.
The only reason I might want to run spiral is if we used hypoid gears to offset the pinion up or down.

Quality control, and that's sort of my point..
Probably going to try their MT48 universal driveshafts though, we'll see how that goes..
The driveshafts are on my list too. First I think I'm going to try ditching the shock boots and install travel limiters on the shafts instead. I suspect my bent driveshaft issue is the shaft being pushed past its maximum cup exit angle. I did the same thing on my Kraton and I don't break drive cups or bend driveshafts anymore. It's all theory till you plug the battery in. We'll see.
