Hi, forum i wanna start with im still new to the rc game and I need help with finding the right gearing to not burn nothing up? I'm running 4092 1420kv motor 20t pinion with a max8 esc on punch 4 on 6s 5000 mah 45c graphene lipo. I wanna know is that a good gear or am I geared to low or to high? Like I said I'm still new to this and the gearing part is my worst fear not to burn anything up. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated 🙂

Were are your temps at

what tires are you running

what kind of terrain grass, sand, hard pack dirt

Get yourself a temp gun, run the car for 5 mins test your temps, I like to try and keep the motor below 160°f. Run it again for another 5 mins test again, and so on and so forth. I used to carry a temp gun with me whenever I bashed.

You won't know if the gearing is right for you without monitoring temps. It also depends on what you are doing, if your running flat out on a field then you will need a different set up to driving and jumping off a ramp for example.

The esc is a little at risk with such a big motor, but it will run it, just check your fans are still working after each run or even during, when you do you temp checks.

I run a 19t pinion with my 4092 and it can still get hot if I'm running it hard on my basher Kraton or Talion.

Well the temp I got was 148 Fahrenheit onesc and motor about 160 at about 15min run on grass and ripping down my street. I have a temp gun I just don't know what Temps are bad or good? So are those good Temps for that long run of 15mins?

150F is good
160F is the limit I do not like to cross
180F is when you start cooking the grease in the motor bearings, leading to compromised lubrification. If you ever get there, recommendation is to change the motor bearings or you risk regular overheating.

Ok thanks I'll look out for that also can I change pinion size to see if temp changes as well? And I'm running these tires the dboots copperhead.

You can reduce pinion size to reduce temps, but only to a certain extent.

150F on grass feels alright though. Grass creates resistance and a lot of heat. I would just keep an eye on it.

The temps don’t look to bad to me for grass runs

not shur where you live but now is a good time to test motor temps for me. Due to ambient temperature is close to 100* F

overheating is always a higher risk on hot summer days

I live in ohio and yes it's been heat warnings here in the past 3 days. Well Saturday yesterday my Temps hit around 180 -185 on both motor esc at about 20 minutes full out bashing so i shut it down for the day.

Sorry late responding no I'm running the metal spur gear gear since I put 5he kit together.
