Had a arrma blx system lying around and put it into my brothers 4x4 slash. Drove it ripped off the proline wheel hexes. Got 17mm hex extenders and cheapo wheels. Boy that was fun. Broke the center driveshaft so it was 2wd. After drifting, speed runs and Smokey doughnuts. Foam ripped and moved to one side of the rear tires. Tread was almost worn through. It melted where the bearing goes in the plastic motor mount. So... ordered Tekno big bone drive shaft and aluminum motor mount.

Any ideas on cheap wheels with 17mm hexes.? Not like the 15 dollar for four we trashed today. 50ish and below dollar ones. We want to get a better feel for what this thing will do before trashing roughly $100 prolines. Are foam tires still a thing? Would they hold up?

The TEKNO upgrade will do you very well, keep in mind that TEKNO offers a 50% lifetime warranty on all the parts they sell if you wear those parts out:

For driving on asphalt it's not clear what failed on your wheels? Did the plastic wheel break or did the rubber tread come off? Where you running buggy tires designed for dirt or where they GT8 tires?

For speed runs and a nice long lasting tire, I've had good luck with these from SupraSales:

They are a really hard compound and will actually do great if you want to mix some drifting action, however they don't get very much grip and can be difficult to control at high speeds.

A good middle of the road GT8 tire is from SP Racing, they get better traction, but because they are a softer compound they will wear faster, but give you better performance for speed runs:

If you want a high quality tire then go with Sweep EXP50 belted radial, these are the best money can buy for speed runs in the 80mph+ range, but again, they are a softer compound and will wear a pinch faster than the SP Racing tires:

Thanks for the info. I will look those up. also have gotten a suggestion for GRP Tires.

He got GRP. He just needs a good street body now.
