If a waterproof option is important, then I highly recommend the Castle 1515 sensored 2200kv motor combo with the Mamba Monster X ESC. On 4s it is a beast and the motor rarely heats up.

i really wanna try the new sensored castle 1515 but i've already got a Tekin. I'm hearing great things about the sensored Castle 1515, does anyone have experience with both the Castle and Tekin? I'm wondering if the Castle can handle more weight without heating up. the Tekin heats up real fast pushing around huge 7in tires, which is undersatndable considering it's a competition motor designed for light weight truggy wheels/tires... I 'm afraid to drop $ on a castle to find that it heats up like the Tekin due to these boat anchor proline wheels/tires i'm currently running.
Yes, I have both a Tekin 2250 in a DESC10 and a Castle 2200 in a EB48.3. Both running Mamba Monster X ESCs. They both get fairly hot, according to the data log from the Moster X I was seeing 195 degrees when whooping the snot on a warm day on the 1515. The track is big and run 4s, with a fan it’s back down to 165. Tekin I never really checked but it did not seem any cooler if I had to guess. Not sure what you consider hot, but for me I don’t like anything near 200.
Used to be true that castle was not for racing until they started using sensored ESCs and motors, then the “smoothness” between the two is near the same now. As far as the amp rating, Castle does not give you one but the Tekin says 300 amps at 1000 burst? That seems made up, a 1000 amps? The wires would burst into flames. My data logger says 90 amps at full rip 4s, what you need 300 for I don’t know. Both have 8 amp BEC, both data log, both switch to sensorless timing at high rpm.Thanks.. i think both brands say not to exceed 200 degrees on motors. I don't like to see more than 180... with my 1717 motor it never gets over like 140 ha ha. but the ESC gets hotter. I might consider going (back) to a Tekin RX8, had a g2 before but I didn't like how it handled stop/reverse delay and the software was terrible and didn't work half the time. I like castle better for bashing. if I was racing it seems Tekin is the way to go. Spec-wise Tekin claims the RX8 can handle 300 amps which is like double of the MMX. Sounds unrealistic, at that much it would reach thermal cutoff within seconds you'd think...

I’ll tell you what is really cool about Castle, if I’m the middle of a race if you loose your sensor board connection it just keeps going sensorless, Tekin is dead.
Castle has a channel 3 aux input you can use to adjust your power output with a dial on the TX on the fly, I use it as the track changes and it’s really cool.
Castle has sbus telemetry, I use it to let me know what my input voltage is and the TX sends me an alert.
Castle $80 cheaper...
So I guess that’s why I got the X
I would not get hung up on manufacturering location , Castle is designed and engineered in Kansas and is an American company unlike HW. I had Tekin, it’s as good as the Mamba Monster X but it’s cheaper and waaaaaay easier and cheaper to program I guess that is what it came down to for me. I also have 7 ESCs from Castle in use, none of them have failed, one of them is from 2008.Completely agree with you about Tekin's amp rating. 300 seems unrealistic. that would require like a 2 gauge wire. lol
Ah i thought the Tekin sensored setting was 'automatic' so sensor loss wouldn't result in stopping any more, but i could be wrong. I haven't had an RX8 in over a year. Telemetry is very nice! i had it on my spektrum dx8 when i flew to monitor when i needed to crash.
Well, from what i understand, Tekin stuff is made in USA, Castle is all China, that would explain why the Tekin costs so much more. I do like to support American factories, so many have gone away (or to China.) But it is hard to justify buying American when the product just can't match the competition. Tekin is lighter weight than the Castle stuff, and performs well enough to race with, so I can see why people compete with it.
But you're right, value-wise, Castle is much better. But then again the chinese brands like Hobbywing are an even better value if they have the feature that you need... I actually had a Hobbywing ESC and to my surprise it performed smoother than my old Castle MM2 ESC.. i think it was the 120sc esc? I also had a HW motor and it was fantastic, an oversized sensored into my Wraith and I don't think the temp ever got over 120 degrees and was twice as fast as a stock Wraith. The Hobbywing stuff has really gotten good. Unfortunately their prices have also gone up to pretty much meet Castle, and now that Castle has sensored motors I doubt I will bother with HW again but if you can find them for considerably less than Castle I'd go for it.
