Pinion gear position

Wondering about my pinion gear setup. I would think it should sit more center with the drive gear, but my set screw can't git the flat part of the motor shaft if I center the pinion gear. Should I shim the motor out?

What if you turn the pinion around so the set screw sits "on the other side" (opposite to the motor).

You probably have enough shaft length for the screw to still bite properly.

You can also grind the motor shaft to extend the flat spot if you want to retain a traditional alignment

Generally the closer the pinion is to the motor will produce less flex on the shaft and will be less likely to break, though that's the main reason they upgraded shafts to 5mm so perhaps it can handle the load if you flip the pinion around?
