My Latest Tekno project...SCT410 2.0 Rally Car!
Still some more work on the custom printed parts + I need to make a spoiler.
I have a few different materials to try printing, for testing durability for the roll cage and front rear bumper. Going to try a combination of ABS, PC, PETG-CF, and PPA-CF (which might be over kill), and TPU 95A for add flexibility to problem areas
  • 17mm wheel conversion kit
  • 4S set up for XERUN XR8 Pro G3 + 4268SD 2200KV (16T pinon)
  • Custom front /rear bumper & functional roll cage
  • reinforced Delta Plastik body

Woah, that's mint. I'm looking to turn my SCT410SL into a rally car and started browsing for "inspiration" (=builds I could copy), and this is the first thing I saw on the top of the page entering Teknoforums. Hmmm. Is it destiny? It could very well be.

The problem is I lack basically everything it takes to make things like that roll cage happen. I might have to do with a set of road tyres and pretend the truck is now rally. Sigh.

You can absolutely use a DelaPlastik body for a SCTSL rally car (any of the on road 325mm bodies). You will have to create custom tower mounts at the very lease. Here is what Den-889 did:

I can give you my files to 3d print. The only thing is the SCTSL doesn't have the front, rear, and side chassis mounts I use to screw my stuff to. So you will have to buy those parts (if they are compatible).

Hi,
I come from Germany and would also like to build a rally car with the Delta plastic body. My problem is the cage. Do you perhaps have a plan of the cage or data? I would be really happy. The subject of cages has been causing me a headache for a long time. You really built a great car! Respect👍🏼

best regards
Frank

hi Frank,
The front and rear towers/bumpers where custom made to the Subaru delta plastik body (0108 - Subaru, wheelbase 325mm). Those set the height for the roll cage. So I can give you the files to 3d print yourself, but if you use another body there is a good chance they wont fit. But if your handy enough editing them you can modify them in a 3d program.

You will need a bunch of 3m screws (two sizes and I check later), washers, and lock nuts. Along with TPU 3d material for the bumper and a stronger material for the bumper/cage (either ABS, PTEG-CF, or PC).

Also to note, if you are going to make the sct410 2.0 rally car, you will need the 17mm wheel conversion kit. If you are running 4s you need to swap the center diff gear to metal, the plastic gear axis will break. My 2200 motor was pushing it in the dirt :D

Hi,
I expect a "Delta plastic Subaru WRX 1:8" body next week. It should fit with the 17mm M2C adapters and the GT Tarmarc. The engine is a 4278 Sensored/ 2250KV on a Max8. What I'm missing is a good roll cage. See you soon

Frank

Hi, thank you for all the helpful information. Do you have limiters in the shock absorbers? Is your metal gear from the middle differential from Tekno? And would you be so kind as to provide me with your STL files from the modified bumpers via DM? Greetings from Mönchengladbach

No limiters, I just use standard emulsion/shock oils set up. Its cold here in Ireland so I was using 400/450 or something in for the oils. I beefed up the center diff oils to 20k/20k/7k i think for astro.

I did find the stock spring and sway bars to weak (on tarmac and astro), as I'm adding more weight to the chassis. I got the front and rear sway bar kit and max out the swaybar strengths. for the shocks I think I'm using purple springs (have blue & red for tuning).

Yes the center diff in the sct has a plastic cross pin for the gears. These will break with 4s (I run a 4268D 2200kv ), so I installed theTKR5149 Differential Cross Pins, these requires TKR5150 gears (you need both of those parts).

Sure, I should have the .3mf project files to share. Again you can get by with a PLA+, but I would use a stronger filament such as ABS, PETG-CF, or PC instead. For the Bumper you can use cut out foam, or TPU (better for wet conditions). I attach the bumper with super heavy 7gk strength velcro

Post pic of your build :)

Hello, thanks for your helpful information! At the moment I print a lot, otherwise I have little time. But I will post a photo in the next few days. I would like to make the roll cage out of 4mm brass tubes. I hope with silver sold the construction holds. But I'm not that far yet. Your bumper files are awesome!!! How did you manage that? Really awesome👍🏼 See you soon

That's great, looking forward to seeing your build!

The Brass cages sounds awesome, hopefully its not to heavy. The trick is making a system to detach it from the chassis for cleaning easily. I ended up mounting from the 4 side screw holes on each side of the car. I want to make a system like the new Losi 5 truck that can pop off the cage with a latch.

To make the bumpers I used a digital caliper and a note pad to figure out dimensions. I used a 3d program called Houdini to model everything.
