What is everyone's preferred method (if any) of reinforcing a body to be bashed?

The old "tried and true" is Shoe Goo and drywall tape (grid type). However, I did a long, well documented test a few years ago that gave a slight edge to Shoe Goo and drywall tape topped with a coat of underbody coating. It did, however, make for a freaking HEAVY body! Ultimately, what I found in my test that I think was the most beneficial is that several of the "top" favorite methods of body protection are so close to each other that you might as well go with the cheapest and easiest. In my case, I believe that to be a single layer of Gorilla Tape (or other good quality duct tape). It goes on quick and does a great job of stopping damage.

I find the drywall/shoegoo is great for reinforcing and repairing. I’ve also been adding pieces of kydex sheets to bodies for extra strength ...it gets shoe gooed on first then bolted on. Here’s my current MT410 body. It’s extremely durable...been through hell. The whole bed is kydex, also some in front. Also kydex inside strips running the length of the sides(under the drywall shoe goo)

A closer look at the kydex bed.

This has been bulletproof

For Overkill durability I have many extra body posts . This way impacts are not just on 4.
And it’s a must to get some body support and posts more toward the center of the body

I tried a bunch of options and settled with mega black rtv gasket maker and 2 layers of fiberglass drywall tape. It’s stronger than silicone and shoegoo and stays flexible. Milking multiple bodies with this system right now.

In addition to the options above, I have found success with surrounding the underside of the body post holes with a glue gun OR shoe goo-ing a plastic washer to the underside.

Though I have yet to do this, there is more attention being placed on the unbreakable bodies now being offered. They are a little on the pricey side but the feedback from those who have made the investment has been positive.

I tried drywall tape and 2 pet epoxy on my 6 year olds stampede. It’s holding up so far but is a pita to apply. I also found this awesome write up by a guy who reminds me of me in the sense that he likes to really test theories out in some semi-scientific self realized method

Too funny! It reminds me of me, as well, 'cuz it WAS me! At the time, I was working away from home, so I was messing with RC's in my hotel rooms. I did that entire test over the course of a week in my room. I even did the spraying in my room! Ha! I was very careful, though, to mask the surrounding areas and I never got any paint on the bedcover.

WOW! That truck is a tank! Looks great! I like the rugged panelized look.

If only that stuff bent... on my SCT410.3, right in the joint on the bed, it has started to crack and the rear fender is now hanging around and hitting the rear tire.

HAAAAA! :ROFLMAO:

That's too funny! Glad to see you here. I really appreciated the thought and effort that went into it. Admittedly, knowing that you did this while trapped in the confines of a small hotel room, I now question the veracity of your findings since you were probably at least a little bit high from paint fumes :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Some good tips here. I need to reinforce mine somehow, really sucks how quickly these bodies get shredded.
How many folks have experience with those Russian 'unbreakable' bodies?

Look closely. I have a strip of kydex shoe gooed and bolted in the inner length of the body. This and the drywall/goo treatment really strengthen that area

This is my et48 monster truggy body. This takes a ton of flex out of the body when your lid landing from the moon

In France I found a kind of gorilla tape. It's perfect, very strong and durable and I think the fastest method

you could use flex seal, it makes it stiff and a nice black under coating, just make sure to get window masks off quick, nice grippy rubber

i just saw that stuff on TV the other day and wondered how it would work... where can you buy it locally? any of the big box stores have it?

Yessir. Both Depot and Lowe's and I believe I even seen it at Wally World:)

Cool! maybe I will pick up a tube... I wonder if anyone has actually used it or if colby's post was just an idea... i would love to find something that would reinforce a normal body. those Russian ones appear to be invincible but I don't like how it's just one solid ugly color, and that the size is actually smaller than normal.

I'm actually curious how well it would work myself. This is the first time I've heard it suggesed

I use 2 layers of drywall mesh and 2 tubes of ShoeGoo. Yep, it's heavy, but not so much as a 9200mAh battery. Not that I running one of those. And with the tall X-Maxx body posts, which are the only piece of plastic, made by Traxass, that doesn't break. Lots of cushion for bad landings, rool overs and other basher crashes. I landed once on the rear corner and it dented, but did not crack. I tried to pop the dent out, but it would not come all the way back. Just added character now. I also masked off the body, and sprayed Truck Bed Liner on the outside of the roof and hood. This makes for awesome Scratch protection for those asphalt traction roll overs. And once it wears thru or looks ugly, just tape it off and spray some more on there. You can see in the 2nd picture I took a 40 yard roof slide on the street, and had just re-sprayed the Roof. Perfect basher body.

I love it. Those reinforcements are MAD MAX status, for sure.

Great suggestions above. I have only done the shoe goo and drywall tape methods but to no evail. Between my stellar driving skills and the MT410 with a Kim Kardashian hiny that's always landing on its arse, I have gone through a body in less than 20 packs.
Would like to try that Russian body as I read though heavy are pretty bullet proof.

I’m sure those unbreakable bodies are tough, but they sure are fugly being all one solid color. They look like a toy truck you’d but at the dollar store.
