48 2.2 center differential leaking

Hi,
I just built my first Rc/Kit and after my first run, the center diff fluid seem to splattered throughout the body and chaise (more than I am comfortable with).
Before I open it, I'm waiting on some more diff oil & gaskets to come in the mail, but wanting to know what possibly might be the issues other people have ran into.

When assembling I filled the oil level was about 1mm from the top and screws where tight in the gear (screwed them in a star pattern).

• When reassembling, are you guys lightly sanding with 220 + grip paper on a flat surface to get a better fit?
• Should I leave more of a 2/3mm gap on oil from the top to not overfill?
• Do you put black grease gasket around the gasket?

I had this happen on my SCT410.3. I took it apart, refilled it, and put it back together. It hasn't leaked since. All i can think of is that I thought the screws were even and tight but they weren't actually.

thanks, will triple check that when I'm rebuilding. Did you use black grease on the gasket?

Over filling can also cause it to leak, maybe try a little less fluid next time. Unless you ripped your gasket, it's probably fine. I reuse mine all the time.

I do not put grease on my gaskets.

I may be the dinosaur here but I don't do anything special. I fill it, slap a gasket on it, then bolt it together. Admittedly I circle the mounting screws like a vulture to make sure they're evenly tightened. 11 years of Teknos and I've never had a diff leak. The key is making sure your screws are evenly tightened down, and do a second go around just to make sure.

I like to pre-tap the diff cases when working with new plastic... I run the screws in and back 'em out. I can get a better feel for when screws are bottoming out by doing this.

If I see any molding imperfections on the face of the cases, I will do a light sanding to get rid of any high spots.

Grease... of course. I always grease up the gasket.

I like to pre-tap the diff cases when working with new plastic... I run the screws in and back 'em out. I can get a better feel for when screws are bottoming out by doing this.

Automotive grease lying around a bad idea? I have this Valvoline all around grease.

Other than that, I'm been using green slime (AE) for everything lol.

You might also be seeing the grease from the bearings on the inside of your car.

I had the same problem. I had some oil on the gears and under the buggy on car stand. Im going to take the diff out snd inspect. I have a question about removing the diff. What is the easiest way to get it out? Id rather not disconnect the servo horn. I read you can just pop off carb ball, loosen 4 screws on top plate and turn whole assembly to get the diff out?

I think this is still relevant for removal in the front and rear diffs. haven't tried it yet
