MT48 2.0 diff cups and cross pins,
Tekno has a new diff cup Tkr9120 for the front and rear, it does not have steel support at the outdrive like the other Tekno diffs I’ve built, and I’m wondering why. Is it a cost saving measure? They are like 11$ for a package of 3 making them the cheapest Tekno diff cup. Or is it really an engineering intention?
The Option part per the manual is Tkr9115b or Tkr9115c.
Both of those are like 12$ each.
The Tkr9115c requires the use of spider gears shims Tkr1261.
So I’m considering using the Tkr9115b for my initial build.
Also anybody think there are benefits to plastic cross pins that are in the kit? Flex or something? Or is it a cost saver and the steel pins tkr9149 are better?
I found it interesting that this new monster truck would use the Tkr9115c for its center differential but then use what looks like a much weaker design for the front and rear differentials, sorry/not sorry for hyper analyzing it. But that’s part of the hobby for me.

Purely an attempt to keep the kit price attractive. That is wild to see the diff cases and cross pins not seemingly up to par on this ride. I say that because the hard anodized aluminum cross pins state...

I for one would have to test stock parts out and run as is to see for myself what cost cutting durability has to offer, but also have optional parts in shopping cart.

Thanks for commenting Rusty,
I think the new MT48 2.0 comes with steel cross pins for the center diff, but plastic ones for the front and rear. I’ll be getting my kit this week. The “Do Rc” review video is the first place I saw that the new cups did not have steel support on the outdrive. I just want to know why, I’m willing to accept that it is a cost saving measure if that really is the case, but it would be awesome if Tekno could speak on why they chose what they did.
The new MT48 2.0 looks like an expansion off of the Sct/mt410 2.0 platform with upgraded ring and pinions. After having built the Sct/mt410 2.0’s it’s almost like those two trucks were manufactured in a totally different facility than the Tekno 1/8 scale models, even the hardware seems different.

That's an interesting thought...

Mine is built. If you replace the plastic X pins with steel the stock gears work and do not use the shims that go on the outside of the gears. To put it differently all you need are the steel cross pins, everything else fits.

Yeah I just built mine (15 mins ago!) with the steel cross pins and agree and agree re no external shims required
