I have really enjoyed the Hobbywing XR8 SCT Pro with the XERUN 3660 4300kv in my 410.3 SCT. I have read a lot of good things about the XR10 G2 Pro, so I picked one up not knowing that it wasn't optimal for a 4 pole motor.

Anyone have any experience running this ESC with a 4 pole? Can anyone provide a good explanation as to why it wouldn't be a good idea?

Thanks in advance!

Who said it's not compatible with 4 pole motors?

Thanks for the reply Bill.. Customer support at Hobbywing was who said that it wasn't a good thing to pair the two.

I saw that in the manual... I'm not 100% up to speed on sensored vs sensorless mode. Does sensorless still boost timing etc.?

No, sensorless will not offer boost/timing advance from the ESC.

Honestly you don't want to mess with boost/timing unless you will be racing stock.

I bet they don't recommend the XR10-G2 with 4-Poles is because the ESC is not rated to handle as much power in terms of watts:

ESCMax RatingMax Watts
XR10-G2160A@3S2016W
XR8-SCT140A@4S2352W

I think you will be fine if you limit it to 2S, but your temps might creep and limit your gearing where the XR8-SCT will run 2352W/2016W = 17% more efficient
