I’ve seen many threads out there on people converting Tekno SCTs and EBs into desert buggies.

I don’t currently own any Tekno’s, so my build would be completely from scratch. I also don’t do any sort of racing, so there’s no specific class requirements.

So what chassis would be the best to build a desert buggy out of? I’m not trying to go cheap, but if one is considerably more affordable than the other, I’d be able to get that build done quicker.

Thoughts?

I have not done a DB conversion myself, but I believe it will be less expensive to start with a SCT410.3 kit, idea being that the kit itself is already less expensive, plus it includes body posts so would need fewer parts to make the conversion. However, if you want larger wheels which use a 17mm hex as opposed to traditional SCT wheels (12mm hex), then it might make more sense to go with an EB48 kit.... really depends on the "look" of what you're going for.

For a first time kit build I would consider reading some of the tips I have shared on this thread here which are going to be fairly universal with the EB48 build too:
BUILD/REVIEW SCT410.3

Good Luck!

I went with a cross between the SCT410.3 and the EB48.3 and then a few NB parts too. Like you said there are a ton of ways to skin a cat, but if you have no specific class requirements then the tables open. I believe due to class requirement that is the main reason people will go with the longer chassis from the ET48.3 as a starting point. I like the nimbleness of the buggy stance more and not being tied to requirements myself is why I went that route.

Now that the EB48 2.0 is out, you'll find used EB48.3 and .4 for really cheap and would easily find one with sensored electronics. But that is just a thought.

Bill is right mechanically speaking. I would plan and cost both options before deciding.

here is my build it started as a eb48.4 its a hybrid mt410 and et48.3 parts 2500 and lots of hrs
