In our hobby, soldering happens. I remember way back when I bought one of those little, rickety soldering helpers with a mirror, like the one below. Man, that was awful!

A few years ago, a friend of mine started making and selling his "Third Hand Man" invention on eBay. Here is an example of one that he currently has on sale. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F292161354757 I loved mine so much that I wrote a glowing review on the RCCrawler Forum in 2014. http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/tool...-new-helping-hand-thirdhandman-soldering.html He sold a bunch of them based on that review. It helped that he'd created a very catchy short video on Youtube. Check it out!

Unfortunately, he never created any sort of intellectual rights protection, so it was soon copied at will. He still sells a few on ebay, but you can now find them everywhere, sometimes for less money. I highly recommend buying whatever version of this creature strikes your fancy. They are AWESOME for soldering!

Those are neat, but I really like The Jig's Up that you can buy on eBay. I know its not in the exact same category of helping hands, but they are super helpful. Borrowed a friend's from the last race to put some bullets on my 6.5T replacement motor in my B5M, and it took me about 5 minutes to do all of them.

I've got a similar one from Amazon and really only used it a couple of times, it was expensive and i'm not sure it was worth it...
they are really handy when you need them though.

I've wondered about that one and almost pulled the trigger a couple of times. I keep shying away because it seems to me like that big chunk of aluminum would be too much of a heat sink and pull the heat out of connectors/wires that I want to solder. I'll watch some more youtube videos and see if anyone discusses that. Maybe it's a non-issue.

The Jig's Up is a priceless soldering jig. I'm glad it was mentioned. I have the V3 and my buddy just got the V4 I believe which has a small vise setup as well. It's most handy for Dean's and TRX connectors. They have their own little holder for soldering those built in.

ah i have a similar one, "MR JIG" i believe it's called. yeah that thing i use more than the giant heavy arm dealio.

Looks like I'll be getting a Jigs Up setup. I've been looking for one that works with the XT connectors

Although I have not used it yet, I just purchased one that seems quite promising. It is from RCPROPLUS racing products. Amain carries it, along with a few other places: https://www.amainhobbies.com/rcproplus-spring-lock-soldering-station-rpprca1618/p478930

Here are a couple of videos showing the use of an earlier version of the jig that uses alligator clips. I chose to get the newer version shown above. I sure wish those Supra X connectors came in smaller sizes. I love how the connectors hold solder so well:

Turnigy with 6 detachable tentacles & an usb fan works for me.

I have the 3rd hand man and love it. Melted the little rubber tip on the binder clip first go around but I use a piece of leather now in the jaws to hold wires etc.

Edit: Funny. I went to your RCC review and yup your the reason I got it.

I need a good setup. I have the cheapo in the OP and hate it. The Jigs Up looks like a fixture I would design at work. I’ve used those knobs on a bunch of different fixtures.

I have one of those Turnigy Six-Arm Strange Hands.

That is pretty cool. I have a buddy that makes those types out if a pvc cap and somehow maages to get them to stay put.
