So, I decided to get a 2nd(or 3rd) hand eb48.3. Got it from a member here, not too bad of shape but needs a refresh. I ran it a few times with my 5 year old and he loves it.
I'ts boasting a hobbystar 4074 1900 or maybe its a 2000KV motor, max8 ESC, and a NSDRC direct voltage servo. I've been wanting to turn something into a desert buggy and decided this was the best platform for the price. Anyway right now its torn down and I have the parts in a bag awaiting to be shipped to Tekno for the warranty deal. The cage and body is a tenacity DB, I beleive its literally the same thing as the SCBE. I just need the SCT shock towers to make it all fit, plus mine are all bent. The rear tower might work, however the front is too tall.
Notice the datsun 620 SCX24.......

a lesson learned on laying a dark color over a translucent color. Im using a black and yellow paint scheme, tamiya ps42 translucent yellow with the ps5 black. It turned out like a turd on the one panel i covered the yellow with. I wont even stain the eyes of others with this image, so ill just try to wipe the slate clean with some thinner and hopefully it doesnt mess up the polycarbonate. I was just trying to get a black stripe in with the yellow to offset the colors. Im really hesitant to back the yellow with white now!

dang.... just dropped $200 on a couple upgrade items with some missing items and maintenance items. Thats not even what im about to send out for the warranty stuff. This is no cheap hobby by any means.

saved it! but i think it got a bit cloudy. i used the hobby knife, some thinner and a rag, and scrubbed with some scotch brite red pad, along with a scrub brush. I can live with that.
now i just wait for some parts to get here.

does anybody know which shock towers would work best? Im sure its the sct towers? my towers are bent to shite but the rear looks like its a workable height. the front is way too tall.

I'll have to post some pics of how these turned out, because I do like em. i backed the yellow with white and it looks great. i cant really see the cloudiness I thought I created in the lexan. I just need to get some screws to mount everything up to the tenacity roll cage. Havent done much to this project since im waiting to get some warranty parts. This buggy had a lot more damage than I initially saw, and i decided to give it a real good fresh start. even the rear arms had some crazy slop where the hinge pins were. every hinge pin was bent of course.

ok you've asked, and I couldn't wait either! Excuse the camera shots, It is a cheap camera and it was very bright. Hopefully, this gives the idea of what the body will look like.

i have compiled a bag full of bent, broken, and worn out parts to send out for warranty. its a costly ticket. buying all this stuff new would be close to $400. thank tekno for that warranty! This is where the guy comes in and asks...."buy a new one, wait for the next version, or get a used"? yeah i asked the same question. it now seems i will only save a few hundred by getting a used chassis and replacing almost everything. for just bashing i may have gone on just fine without replacing most things, but i like my toys in the best shape. plus they drive better with good parts. It would have happened this way soon enough.

Im thinking of getting some 2.8" tires because im unsure of what 2.2" tire and wheel to get. I really like the proline hyrax on the raid wheels. I already have the extended hex hubs, the largest offset tekno had to offer. I will have to browse through chainsaws build and tbuggys as well to see what they were using.

Yeah the Tenacity DB is just an updated version of the SCBE.

I ran the Badlands MX28 on my Typhon when I turned that into a DB.

I’m swapping in the SCT shock towers since the buggy towers were bent, does anybody know if I need to get shorter shocks?

Not the same shock length indeed. Hard to say if it is going to work or not.

FYI, MT410 towers are the same size but stronger (compared to SCT).

well when my coupon comes in, maybe ill get the MT towers. ill just have to post up how it all fits.

looks like eb48.3, MT410, and the SCT share all the same shocks up front, while only the EB48.3 and MT410 share the same rear shocks. rear SCT's must be shorter but, since the buggy has longer arms, maybe the buggy shocks will work. Cool.

I'm pretty sure the sct410 shocks are shorter than the mt410.

sct410.3 front shock body tkr6002
eb48.3 / MT410 front shock body tkr6016

mounting up shorter shocks will work fine you'll just get less max droop

the SCT has a shorter shock in the rear, check out the build manuals, as thats what i was going off of. (y)

whoops, bag L and bag M both say front shock assembly........ so i could be wrong and it wouldnt be the first time. maybe it uses the MT/eb48.3 front shocks in the rear?

i dont have the SCT but now i see it. the buggy and MT share front and rear shocks and the SCT uses those front shocks in the rear, while using a shorter shock up front. so, Ill just have longer shocks, if they work out that is. The buggy has longer arms so......... we shall see.

I dont know what tekno is going to award me for warranty, but im hoping for about $275 or so. that leaves me with probably $180 out of pocket for the things I would still need. When i said this thing needed an overhaul, I meant it!
