Now that the 2.0 is coming I might transform the .3 into a basher. A desert truckgy came to mind but I don't know how difficult or costly it would be. Maybe a Nomad cage fits, dunno.

Any tips, pics, links appreciated.

Steve B in Vegas has some good info on this look up some of his posts from this summer

It would be cool to try out the baja rey/ rock rey cages I think they should fit though haven’t seen it before. I’ve been tempted to try it out but it implies a bit of stomach to risk that cash without being certain. What concerned me the most was total wheel clearance. I have a proline raptor body for the baja rey that looks really cool on the et48.3 and seems to fit without issues. Will double check this and get back with some additional info.
Nomad cage fits no problemo

Thanks a bunch.

Just to be clear, I want to keep the stock arms so a wide body/cage, Rey perhaps?

The FS Racing Atom 6s, Reely Raptor and FTX DR8 cage should fit, if you can find one.
This is an Arrma Kraton 6s with that cage on it.

Hey all,

My ears were burning, and figured something was in play over here. First off, Slick, that is super awesome. You nailed that build.

While I've settled on my Tekno being a grass racing truck, I'm still not giving up on making a Tekno desert / rock racer. Getting the body and cage sorted out is going to be a trick. Nomad parts are done, and no more will be coming in from China. I'm about as sure as I can be that AE has no more inventory there, so you're left with what's floating about on Ebay or with dealers. So if you're building around the Nomad body and cage idea, you're at a dead end.

I think it's key to pick something currently made on a standard production platform and start there. The next issue is getting that body to fit as well as possible to keep the rocks and debris our from the chassis.

I don't think we could get the Lasernut body to fit without reworking the front sides. It tapers in along the Tenacity chassis, and the Tekno chassis does not taper there.

At this time I don't have answer for this, but I'm stuck on the Tekno quality, so I'm hopeful to figure it out. Here is a item to ponder; do we really need a "cage" or just a body? I ask because a company like Leadfinger racing has such nice looking bodies that I'd love to see them approach a rock racing buggy body. I'd be fine without a cage.

Just food for thought. A long travel EB482. with Leadfinger rock racer buggy body, and I'm in.

s

Looking forward to seeing what the new ET48.2 looks like.

Well *I* am not convinced that a cage is necessary... ?

I think the cage is indeed the sticking point, and bypassing that might open up many more options. Right now I'm running the Lasernut U4, and while it's abilities has far exceeded the quality of it's parts or construction, it's evolving into a money pit.

It's so far away from the quality level of a Tekno, but darn it sure does the job amazingly well.

That's not my build. I found it over on the Arrma forums one day.

Do you mean the ET48 2.0? There already was a ET48.2.

Yeah, the new 2.0 variant is what I'm waiting to see before I figure out the build. I placed the Lasernut cage and body on my current Tekno with the ET chassis, and it fits pretty well. I just want to see the details before I move forward on the build.

I may also rework a Kraton EXB into the same animal, but I have a feeling it will end up quite a bit heavier than the Tekno.

There was a little talk about fitting the Losi Rock Rey cage on a DB-48. I'm here to say - it is a very possible option.

I finally got around to breaking down my Rock Rey this morning to do some upgrades on it. As promised, I tried it out on my M2C wide truggy chassis (M2C 6825).

It fits like a charm! I am ordering a new cage right now. It should be easy to mount and hinge at the rear like the Lasernut does. I think it looks great - personally, I like it better on this than on the Rey. The Tekno is about an inch longer wheelbase, and the RR cage is so wide that I'd have sworn it wouldn't work, but at least on this wide chassis, it does.

Take a look and see what you think.

Checking back on this thread after a while, glad to see so many updates. @Sergeant82d that RR cage sure looks killer on the tekno, tempted to give it a try, meanwhile I haven’t even had the chance to wrap up my DB48. Will do soon. Last weekend I fixed the two 1/18s I beat the crap out off indoors and retuned my TA rc10b64 so I feel already warmed up to dive into the db48 and finish it. As soon as I gather steam to get down to it I’ll take out that BR body and post the pictures for reference.
@Steve B in Vegas regarding the lasernut cage and tekno chassis, there is a guy at the db48 facebook page that is selling custom made chassis following the same shape as the losi but with the tekno screws pattern, and they look really good quality. I believe though they are built for a db48.2 donor.

@Jack the Tripper - ref the FB custom chassis - Fidel Sanchez on the FB DB-48 page told me a few weeks ago:

"... So the way I’m going to do it.. it’ll be between 300-400 but it will include the bumper, shock towers and chassis.,.."

But I had just ordered the M2C chassis and accessories, so I had to pass then. I think he has the right idea, though, so I will probably be getting one from him this spring or summer.

I have bought two used EB48 2.0's in the past month though, so I'm holding back on any more larger purchases for a few weeks, at least... But I like having multiple versions of my projects, so I can make progress even when one is broken.

I'd sure love to see more folks running around with this type of rig. I think it is a great option for un-prepared tracks - part monster truck/basher, but with the buggy handling inside. What's not to like?

That’s right, that’s the guy. He does some really awesome custom rigs !! Absolutely agree on that, should make one hell of a rock racer, best of all worlds for a db48 imo. Would love to get one myself as well, an eb48 has been on my list for quite a while now.
Anyways, I just finished my DB48 and am looking forward to maiden it this weekend. So currently I have no new projects but a minor retune of the et48 and a change of spark plug on the nb48. Other than that the fleet is in top shape and I must say I feel somewhat of a relief, it takes considerable time upkeeping them.
Btw tried out the BR body (pics attached) on the DB and honestly it doesn’t have quite a good fit unless some serious trimming is done to the body to clear the wheels. The ET48 being open wheel presented a much better fit from what I can remember. Will try that again and share pics when I take it out for retune.
Bests !!!

I need to update my build thread with these pictures, but since I posted the Rock Rey cage pics here, I'll put these here too.

I started mocking up body panels for the RR cage on my DB-48 build. Please restrain your comments to the general layout, and not the specific ragged edges and un-matching panels. 8^D

I also ordered seats and five-point seat belt harnesses for this, but they're a couple of weeks out.

Mann @Sergeant82d totally dig. I even think it will look better than the original body. Those custom panels and the scale seats will make for a killer build !! Way to go.
Keep us posted !
