Just a heads up. The 60 watt hobbico iron can be had for 10 bucks and it comes with 2 chisel tips. Works great. I was a noob to soldering and it hasnt let me down at all.

For someone on a tight budget like me its a great starter iron

Yea I've seen quite a few recommend that. To be honest though I've done batteries, esc's, motors, even fixed an esc fan with this little hobbico.

I just bought myself a 30 dollar 60amp soldering iron from my local trade shop and it does everything i need it to do. I will say something where you can set the temperature would be super useful as sometimes my iron gets too hot for little thing gauge stuff so i have to turn it on and off to regulate the temperature lol i have heard that the Trakpower TK950 is a good choice also.

Just picked up the Hakko 888d station for 90 bucks to replace my old Weller. Seriously kicking myself for not upgrading sooner. Heats up just about instantly and solders great. Not really cheap but not breaking the bank either.

That's the soldering iron I have and I love it. Solders up my XT150 connectors in a hurry.
I also use the XT150 connectors and this soldering station makes these super simple to install. On another note, I highly recommend the XT150's. They are easier to plug and unplug than the Castle connectors but still carry the current needed to maximize ESC/motor performance.

I also got the hakko it’s awesome
+3 for Hakko. I was crappy at soldering when I upgraded early in my hobby experience. It provided so much better control that I didn't mind using it and I practiced more. It helped me become better at soldering.

Since I love wiring so much now  I will upgrade to Hakko as I wanted one for a long long time.
For now I use the below Hakko 936 knock off and zero complaints other than the short cord. Big watt soldering irons are like a good battery charger. Why I didn't upgrade long ago is beyond me.

Love the Hakko. It’s a great iron. If your in the Cincinnati area Micro Center has them in stock for $80.

Speaking of soldering. I was soldering some XT90’s on my new batteries last night and I’m really anal about getting a good solder joint to the point I re-soldered a connector a couple times trying to get it right. Finally I said screw it and decided it was good enough. Heat shrink and done.

As I was sitting there I remembered I cut an XT60 off to replace it and wondered what the stock solder job looks like under the heat shrink. So, I cut the heat shrink off and I couldn’t believe how bad their solder job was. If they are being sold like that and not having issues then I don’t need to worry about my connection being absolutely perfect.

I'm actually looking for a soldering iron.
Without previous research, I bought a small 15-watt soldering iron but now I see that everybody recommends at least 60watt
this are my options for a cheap soldering iron, despite Hakko have excellent product reviews I think is too much for my actual needs

Go with the Hakko and don't look back. I got mine on a "best offer" deal from an Ebay seller. $90.00 shipped

I bought the Hakko FX-888D from Fry's. Was a good deal at $78

Make sure thats what you really want. I have 15w, 40w and 60w. 60w is really hot. At least for me it's kind of too hot for esc and battery connectors. Melts the rubber on the wires and really boils the flux. I haven't need anything larger than 40w on my 10th scale stuff.
