Hi all! I'm new to this forum and to tekno rc cars.
Want to start building a basher because I have no race tracks where I live.

ESC and Motor:
Should I go for the HW XR8 Plus 4274 G3 2250KV or the Castle Mamba X combo 1515-2200 Sensored Motor?

Servo:
SRT BH9032

Battery:
Gens Ace Bashing 6800mAh 6S1P 120C

Tires:
Proline 3.8 Trenchers

Radio and receiver:
Spektrum DX5 rugged + SR515

Diff oils:
here I need some help because I know very little on this

You guys think this would work or should I change some of the parts?

Thanks for your comments!

For a basher, I would go with a sensorless setup to make things easier, less parts to fail and maintain, etc..

https://www.hobbywingdirect.com/products/ezrun-max8

https://www.hobbywingdirect.com/col...ducts/ezrun-sensorless-brushless-4274sl-motor

SRT makes a great servo, that 9032 is a solid choice

I would not recommend 6S, trust me, 4S is more than enough for a 2200KV motor with a 16T pinion.

No idea what the gearing would be for 6S and not even sure if you can fit a pinion small enough to work on 6S without cooking the electronics if you plan to run to LVC... 6S is better suited for short bursts like a speed run, wait and let the motor cool before doing another speed run.

This would be a decent basher pack here to consider if you want to bash for a full pack without worry of overheating the electronics:
https://www.smc-racing.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=67_96&product_id=657

For high grip on grass, I would start with 20-20-5 in the diffs
For general gravel, street and low grip conditions I would start with 15-15-5 in the diffs

Good Luck!

I’m a fan of the the Castle 1515-2200kv setup. It’s beast! That’s what I was using in my ET48 2.0 for bashing.

For tires I would also look at Arrma 4s Backflips

Diff oils - 60f-100c-30r. I liked this for a bashing setup. It’s personal preference. You could also probably run an MT410 fluid setup 100-100-50. It’s really adjustable to your needs.

Mentioning this for the OP’s benefit since I learned this today myself: the Castle MambaX-1515 combo doesn’t include a harness that you need to run the sensored motor. There is a harness included in the package, but that harness doesn’t fit the Mamba X. A quick visit of the manual and sure enough, it says you need to buy a second harness to make the combo work.

It’s a “combo”, and it comes packaged together! Why Castle wouldn’t include the required harness to make the “combo” work is beyond me… not impressed.

The harness they reference in the manual is this one. This connects to the other harness that’s already included in the package to make it work:

A little search on the topic and I also found this harness. This one harness replaces the two Castle harnesses that need to be connected together, so I just ordered this one instead:

I built a very similar setup, with the XR8.

The SRT servo is a solid choice - used it in my EB48 build - and I would use it again without any concern. I did go for Promodeller in my ET48 though, just to give it a try, and I was impressed with that too. You cant go wrong with either TBH.

@Ifti,

I used your videos for my ET48 build, I found them on YouTube long before joining this forum.
They are very well done: very thorough, clear, and with great videography. Thanks for doing them!

If you are taking requests, consider doing one on set up (droop, ride height, toe, camber, etc.) There are quite a few other video out there of course, but I think this would complete your series.

Tekno has a few themselves, but in many of them what they call a “set up” is merely a two minute video on how to measure things!

My combo came with all the wires needed. It came with the little harness in the ESC box and the Motor box contained the sensor wire.

Either way I’d suggest just getting the direct wire setup. It makes it cleaner.

Yea that's odd. I have three of the 1515 combos and a 1514 and they all included the sensor harness, nothing extra needed.

Thank you all for your input. This helps a lot! Will post when it's done. Might take some time due to my location and need to order parts from other countries

Thanks for both your posts about the harness, they made me go look at the package again. and the harness is indeed included, it was under the foam packaging in a small slit. When I first didn’t see it I went to the manual which clearly states it is not included. Then I searched online and there were a few threads from some years ago talking about the same thing, so it seems that Castle didn’t include it at first when the introduced Mamba X but started doing so at some point and they just haven’t updated the manual yet.

Either way, apologies for my error, and glad I have what I need to get things running.

For a basher get a 4076 hobystar 2200kv max8. Put the esc somewhere else. The motor and esc will stay a lot cooler. Get 4s backflips. Get a direct power servo. NSDRC or Holmes hobbies. Put m2c center brace and rear brace if you’re sending it hard And front top plate. You will thank me later!

After a long wait and hard work it’s finally ready for the first run 😎
