I am really sorry to be asking these questions. I know everyone asked these same questions. But after reading everything I can find. I realized I was reading post from 2012.
I’ll keep it pretty simple.
I want to race an SCT 410.3.
Money is not the issue. I am not rich just want the best quality.
Smooth power is key.
Data logging is important.

So what ESC/ motor is top choice in 2021

Should I convert to 17mm hubs?

should I spend money on all the metal replacement parts?

I've got a setup here that has been working great for me on smooth hard pack tracks that I've raced:
https://www.teknoforums.com/threads/build-review-sct410-3.1389/

I prefer the HobbyWing ESC's either the SCT Pro or XR8 Plus are great ESC's

Motor depends on the local club rules, in my area they don't follow ROAR so we can run any 3660 motor up to 4S, more info here:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/122...42250&notif_t=group_comment_mention&ref=notif

I run the stock 12mm hexes to make it easier to get SCT wheels where I run AKA wheels which are very reliable and cost effective for me... there are fewer options for 17mm SCT wheels on the market, though if you plan on running 6S then 17mm axles will be necessary.

What are the metal replacement parts you speak of? I know M2C offers some durability upgrades, but these are oriented for bashers and will reduce performance, so if you will be club racing then review the thread I linked above which lists the upgrades recommended for racing vs bashing.

Best of luck!

Thanks for the help
The track rules say “Any” motor and ESC but 2 S battery.
I am thinking about the hobbywing XR10pro G2 or the TekinRx8 or a castle Mamba X
And a Tekin 4300 pro 4 but maybe a hobbywing or Holmes motor.

They sell all manor of metal bits and pieces.
Motor mounts, diff mounts.
They sell the A,B,C,D blocks for the suspension as well as steering linkage. Light weight lower plate..
My thinking is that the plastic parts flex. So that is less likely to bend and be ruined. The Tekno SCT 410.3 has a reputation for being bullet proof and spending 100 plus dollars on bling that will only make the rig less durable seems silly. But I could be wrong.

The 12mm hex hubs seem to work on my rock crawlers just fine. But they are not fast. Just shock impact from rolling down a cliff. Never broke one. With 2S battery I would not expect them to strip.

Since you're limited to 2S then the 12mm hexes will be perfectly fine... I would recommend a 4000KV motor to ease the stress on the battery, yes a 4300KV will work, but it will kill your battery sooner, expect to replace the battery every 4-6 months when running on 2S.

Only aluminum upgrade that is necessary is the A block, I also list a bunch of other upgrades to consider in that thread I link before.

Good Luck!

Thank you for the thread on building the sct410.3
There is a wealth of information there. I will get my kit in a couple days and already started gathering tools and parts.
I’m going to start out with a Mamba X and Castle 2280 and a Holmes 3500 Kv motors
I also have a nice servo and receiver.
I’ll probably change the motor and ESC later. I want a 5mm output shaft. But I already have all this stuff and it will work for practice. It won’t be so fast
Reading your build post gave me a ton of tips and information. Specifics like the importance of steering stop settings.
I got a 4mm reamer to clean up the control arm pivots.
Making sure the pivot balls are smooth. And putting green grease on the shock O rings.
it is all about the details.
So, thanks for shortening the learning curve.
